I actually find nothing sad in your haiku. The word 'passionate' conveys that the drum is giving a pleasure to the drummer. 'Little penny' is a bonus. It is true, though, that 'little pennies' that artists earn are a sad reality.
Is that what you meant, when you wrote this, I wonder!
Nimi ji - Probably very true.. That's the whole thing, though he (the drummer) is very good in his job and plays passionate drum but he isn't earning quite enough for his livelihood. That's what the sad part is.
